What is NOW? February 2023

SNOWDROPS

It’s February in northeastern North America, midway between Winter solstice and Spring equinox . We begin to see nature stirring. The drab wild turkeys still blend in with the dead leaves but there is a small patch of iridescence on their wings. The snowdrops, always the first flower to emerge before the end of winter, popped up yesterday. And today it snowed. Just as flora and fauna are about to burst forth in flower and song, the harshness of an ice storm thwarts their enthusiasm. Nature says, “Hold back a little longer. It is still winter. We are still growing roots underground. We are still planning nests for spring.”

In the Northern hemisphere we have all been hibernating during this season’s short days and long nights. Now as the sun climbs higher in the sky, we can ask ourselves several questions. What idea have I been mulling over silently, underground for the last two months? Where do I find the strength to grow through challenges? What wonderful part of myself am I still reluctant to let anyone see? How can I show my true colors confidently? What have I been nurturing in my private greenhouse that I am ready to boldly present to the world?

Ideas of who I am now and how I want to express this ever-evolving me are always in formative stages. Nature says, “Don’t rush. Trust nature’s timing. You will know when to burst into colorful song!”
